To Our Family & Friends,
My (Ken) family history includes the first commercial fish market in the state of Florida, located in Jacksonville at the foot of Ocean Street on what is now the famous entertainment spot, Jacksonville Landing. The Vanderpoel Fish Market thrived for many years and made our family one of the wealthy elite until the famous stock market crash in 1929. We lost virtually everything then, and I remember hearing glory days stories on my grandparents’ front porch on East Adams Street (now the site of an interstate highway). Their home sat next to the former family mansion and was the servants’ quarters.
Many of our family members chose to remain in Jacksonville, including my mother’s sister who married but never had children. After taking care of her for many of her late years until she passed at age 96, we were blessed with the inheritance of her wonderful condo unit.
It is located midway between downtown (8-10 minute drive) and the Atlantic Ocean beaches (10-15 minute drive). This three-bedroom, two-full-bath gated security unit has been completely renovated and is in virtually new condition. We have considered renting it through VRBO or another service, but have decided to share this blessing with a select group of our family and valued friends only.
A small selection of the fish market photos and memorabilia is on display in a cabinet in the lanai if you are interested. We are keeping the unit fully furnished for every need, including consumables which would allow our guests to bring only the most minimal personal items; mostly just their clothes. We also have decided to keep the cost incredibly low, as our agenda is just to offset the significant HOA cost and cover utilities, insurance, and annual property taxes. This way we can all share the benefits of a first-class vacation experience and reserve enough money to enjoy the great variety of opportunities on Florida’s exciting East Coast.
Estimating the percentage of our personal use, we have determined to use a daily cost of $95, plus a one-time cleaning fee. Depending on how much our guests choose to do in preparing for the next guests, a cleaning & inspection fee of $75 upon checkout will work. The best service we have found will work with this or has a $150 cleaning fee otherwise. We have prepared a detailed review to assist you with planning your stay and welcome any questions that you may have. We look forward to hearing from you!
May you be refreshed by the Son,
